Mayor Pam Hoot's gives April Report to Council

By Tiffany Kessler

In what has quickly become a tradition during each monthly City Council meeting, Mayor Pam Hoots addresses the council and audience by giving her report for the preceding month. Her report for the month of April included highlights below:

- Sidewalks around town are brighter due to a good power washing. Those around the square have been completed.

- Mowing has begun in several areas around the community, this includes the "Welcome Signs" as you enter the city limits.

- Sidewalk repair has been completed on Greensburg Street.

- Bids are being accepted for lighting at Holladay Place until May 10, 2019.

- The fairgrounds area have seen some upgrades: the basketball court has been striped, restrooms cleansed, and gutters cleaned out.

- The city is currently obtaining a quote for a new grate located in front of Nanwood Market and Harris & Harris Law Firm.

- According to Mayor Hoots littering continues to be a problem in the community. Trash was picked up along North Highway 55, Jamestown Street, and Greensburg Street.

- Pot holes around the city are being repaired.

- The staff at City Hall have been attending activities held in the community. Mayor Hoots says she wants those working in her office (Rhonda Loy, Ann Marie Austin and Jada Atwood) to become familiar faces if someone were to reach out with a need.

- A new flag pole is being erected at City Hall.

- Walmart management has been working with the city to create a more attractive green space between City Hall and the green building on the corner of the courthouse square. Mayor Hoots says they have looked into pavers, river rock, and landscaping with a decorative fence.

All council members were present at the May 6, 2019 meeting, including: Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Dr. Ronald Rogers, Sharon Payne, June Parson, and Mark Harris.

Regular meetings for the Columbia City Council are held the first Monday of each month at 6pmCT located in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Meetings are open to the public.
