John Edward Halsey, 76, Knifley, KY (1942-2019)

John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and retired as Material Manager for Fleetwood. He will be remembered by Columbia Magazine readers as a frequent contributor to the public discussion, with informed opinions and commentary on a variety of topics, including history, education, and politics.

John Edward Halsey of Knifley, Kentucky, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at his home. He was 76 years old.

At John's request, there will be no public visitation or service.


He was born July 23, 1942, in Coshocton, Ohio, to the late Jesse John and Anna Marie Batt Halsey and was also preceded in death by two children in infancy.

John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and retired as Material Manager for Fleetwood.

Survivors include:
  • His wife, Emily Jean Pilant Halsey of Knifley
  • Two sons, Scott Edward Halsey of Covington, Tennessee, and Shawn Gerard Halsey of Millington, Tennessee
  • Two daughters, Sandra Jones of San Diego, California, and Susan Dancy of Memphis, Tennessee
  • Two step-children, Stanley Thomas Pilant of Stanton, Tennessee, and Nina Carol Booher of Campbellsville
  • Nine grandchildren, Michael, Peyton, Eddie & Isabella Halsey, Sarah, David & Mark Jones, Jamie Dancy and Julia Hoots
  • Three step-grandchildren, Emily Faith Pilant, Allison Hope Pilant, and Lauren Marie Booher
  • 22 Great-Grandchildren
  • Two Great-Great Grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Knifley Christian Church, 7710 Elkhorn Rd., Knifley, KY 42753 or Sugarfoot Farm Rescue, 860 Sparksville Rd, Columbia, KY 42728 or left at the funeral home.
