KSP: Traffic Safety Checkpoint stop leads to arrest

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at approximately 10:08pmCT, Trooper Allen Shirley was on a Traffic Safety Checkpoint on Liberty Road in Columbia when he made contact with 28 year old Rachel Gaskins of Columbia, KY, who was operating a 2008 Toyota Camry.

Gaskins appeared to be under the influence. Following standard field sobriety tests performed by Tpr. Shirley, a vehicle search was conducted, resulting in several syringes and suspected heroin being located.


Gaskins was arrested and charged with DUI 1st (aggravating circumstance), possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving.

Gaskins was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.


NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
