Lindsey Wilson Women's Tennis captures MSC Tournament title

Campbellsville, KY - Lindsey Wilson women's tennis won its 15th straight Mid-South Conference Tournament championship today with a 5-2 win over Georgetown (KY) at Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.

The top-seeded Blue Raiders (10-5) earn the conference's automatic bid into next month's NAIA National Championship in Mobile, AL.


Lindsey Wilson did not lose a singles match against the second-seeded Tigers (16-5) in the comeback win. The No. 12-ranked Blue Raiders won each of the top four singles matches in straight sets to claim their 82nd straight win over Mid-South competition.

After falling behind to the No. 16-ranked Tigers 2-1 following doubles, Lucia Mora started the comeback with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Amanda Moore in the third-seeded match. Mora improves to 12-2 on the season with the win, including winning five straight singles matches.

Alexandra Parra -- ranked 25th in the NAIA in singles -- quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lauren Fazenbaker in the top-seeded match to give Lindsey Wilson its first lead of the day at 3-2.

No. 33-ranked Lina Sachica extended the Lindsey Wilson winning streak with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Maci Ferguson in the second-seeded match to push the Blue Raiders within one win of the championship. Sachica improves to 10-3 on the season with her fifth straight singles win.

Steffi McDonald completed the comeback in the fourth-seeded match. She posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Madelyn Kauffman to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-2 win. McDonald runs her record to 10-1 this season with her team-best eighth straight win.

Carla Alibert led Katie Swanson 7-5, 4-3 at the fifth-seeded match while Gabriella Pedroza trailed Noel Bielski 1-6, 4-3 when play was halted.

Georgetown built a 2-1 lead with doubles wins on No. 2 and No. 3 courts.

The lone Lindsey Wilson win came in the top-seeded match as 18th ranked Parra and Sachica defeated Moore and Ferguson 8-5. The Blue Raider pair improves to a team-best 9-5 in doubles action with the win.
