Adair Co. Band receives prestigious 2018 Sudler Shield Award

By Jennifer Hardwick

We are pleased to announce that the Adair County High School Marching Band has been awarded the prestigious 2018 Sudler Shield Award from the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

In celebration of the Sudler Shield Award, there will be an awards presentation and concert, featuring guest conductor W. Dale Warren, with the Adair County High School Band on Saturday, April 20, 2019, beginning at 6pmCT at Adair County Middle School. Band members will be recognized, along with directors and staff members. All community members, boosters, alumni, sponsors, friends, and family are invited to attend. Admission is free.

To receive this award is an honor; one that represents the rich tradition of excellence upon which the Adair County Band program continues to build upon. In October, the band won its 23rd State Marching Band Championship, which is the all-time record for most state championships of any band since the KMEA State Marching Band Championships began. Then, in March, the Adair County Concert Band earned straight Distinguished ratings at the KMEA Concert Band Assessment Event.

The purpose of this award is to establish and support international standards of excellence in musical performance, marching execution, choreography, and show design for high school, youth, or international marching bands and to identify, recognize, and honor outstanding high school, youth, and international marching bands who are at a world class level of excellence.
