Blue Raiders fall in final two games of weekend series

Lindsey Wilson baseball dropped the final two games of their weekend series against No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders (7-28) fell to the Grizzlies (36-8) in game one 5-6 before dropping game two 15-5. During game one, Georgia Gwinnett outhit Lindsey Wilson 10-9 and overshadowed the Blue Raiders 17-11 in the following contest.

The Blue Raiders are back in action at 3pmCT on Tuesday as they take on No. 3-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan in a single game at Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.


Game One (9 Innings): Lindsey Wilson 5, Georgia Gwinnett 6

Georgia Gwinnett opened the game with a one-run lead after a home run by Cam Coursey in the first inning. After holding the Grizzlies scoreless in the top half of the inning, Lindsey Wilson managed to take their only lead of the game with two runs coming home. The Grizzlies responded quickly with three runs in the top of the third.

After a scoreless fourth, Lindsey Wilson held off Georgia Gwinnett and minimized the Grizzlies' lead, crossing home with two runs. Tyler Maskill singled to help spark the offense before Seth Price was able to connect on a double to push a run in. The Blue Raiders were granted a run after a balk from the Grizzlies' pitcher to make the game 5-4.

A scoreless sixth would pass before the Blue Raiders tied the game at five apiece in the seventh from an RBI off the bat of Price. The Grizzlies managed a solo run in the top of the eighth to score the game's final run and closed out the game holding the Blue Raiders off in the ninth.

Jed Arend, Price, and Maskill all tallied two hits to lead the Blue Raider bats with Dillan Saunders and Price leading the way with two RBI's each.

Jose Diana (0-4) took the loss for the Blue Raiders, throwing for six innings after Chandler Harnage opened the game on the bump. Harnage threw for three innings worth of work and recorded two strikeouts while Diana managed four during his time on the mound.

Alec Kliphouse (2-1) finished as the winning pitcher for the Grizzlies, pitching for the final three innings. Tucker Plouffe opened the game with six innings before Myles Smith would make a brief appearance. Plouffe recorded three strikeouts while Kliphouse finished with two.

Game Two (7 Innings): Lindsey Wilson 5, Georgia Gwinnett 15

The Grizzlies began game two with a hot start dropping six runs on the Blue Raiders in the first inning. Georgia Gwinnett notched another run in the second with Lindsey Wilson grabbing one as well to make the score 7-1 headed into the third.

A scoreless third and fourth innings passed before Georgia Gwinnett would reheat to score another six runs in the fifth. Lindsey Wilson managed to stop the Grizzlies in the sixth and scored three runs to move the score to 13-4 heading into the seventh.

During the final inning, Georgia Gwinnett tacked on two more runs to finish their game with 15 runs. Lindsey Wilson notched one final run to close out the game.

Arend, Calderon, Maskill, and Saunders all recorded two hits for game two. Ian Gehres crossed home three times to lead the team. Maskill and Calderon also led Lindsey Wilson with two RBI's.

Vincent Boils (1-1) dropped his first game of the season after pitching 2.2 innings. CJ Lent opened the game on the bump with Kelvin Guzman and Bradley Hines both making appearances splitting the final four innings.

Hunter Dollander (5-0) continues his perfect record, picking up the win. Dollander started the game with four innings pitched. Matthew Swain and Richard Triplet both made appearances on the mound as well.
