LWC Baseball on the road against Shawnee State

Lindsey Wilson baseball returns to Mid-South Conference action this weekend as they take on Shawnee State (OH) at Branch Rickey Park, 25 Mary Ann St, Portsmouth, OH. First pitch for Friday's action is set for 2pmCT, with Saturday's doubleheader slated for NoonCT.

The Blue Raiders (7-21, 2-7 MSC) hit the road after falling to Bryan (TN) 8-5 on Wednesday at Egnew Park.


Derek Marrufo leads the Blue Raider batting efforts with a .386 batting average this season. Marrufo has connected for 27 hits, nine RBI's and three home runs as well.

Steven Calderon and Austin Rayno are tied for the lead in the total hits category with 30 apiece. Calderon also leads in total RBI's (27), home runs (7), and doubles (9) while Rayno leads in total runs scored (23).

As for the pitching corps, Ethan Escue has seen the most time on the mound for the Blue Raiders. Escue has pitched for 34.0 innings and has a 5.29 ERA. Jose Diana leads the team with 29 strikeouts this season, pitching for 25.0 innings worth of work. Francisco Arias has the lowest ERA on the squad (4.61) and leads the team with three wins.

Shawnee State (11-18, 1-8 MSC) hosts Lindsey Wilson after dropping two of a three-game series against Cumberland (Tenn.) over the weekend. The Bears were able to open the series with an 11-9 victory before falling in game two 20-2 and game three 4-3.

Howie Rodriguez leads the Bears with a .319 batting average in 47 at-bats as Dalton Phillips leads the hits category with 24 total hits.

Phillips also leads the team from the bump with a 3.94 ERA, throwing for 32.0 innings this season. Ryan Lambert has seen the mound the most for Shawnee State, pitching in 43.2 innings and leads the team with 32 strikeouts this season.

Lindsey Wilson swept Shawnee State at Egnew Park back on April 5-6 during the 2018 campaign. The Blue Raiders outscored the Bears 28-5 during the series. LWC has dropped only five games to SSU during the overall series that dates back to 2011.
