Eye Surgery Introduced Here

This article first appeared in issue 28, and was written by Staff.

For the first time ever eye surgery is available in Adair County. Westlake Regional Hospital and Downey Eye Care are working together to provide this new service.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Mark Huffman, and his brother, Dr. James Huffman, will perform surgery in Columbia each month. They also perform eye surgery in London, Somerset, Manchester, Barbourville, Harlan and East Bernstadt.

Dr. Max Downey, who has practiced optometry in Columbia for 20 years, will conduct candidate screening and preoperative exams. After the surgery, Dr. Downey's office will continue with the follow-up case so that no out-of-county trips are necessary.

"The surgeries will be done with state-of-the-art equipment and training," says Westlake administrator Rusty Tungate, "we are glad to be able to introduce this needed service to the people of Adair County."
