LWC Baseball set to face Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday

Lindsey Wilson baseball is headed to Athens, TN, for a solo-game matchup against No. 2-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan.

First pitch for today's action is slated for a 1pmCT start from Jack Bowling Field, N. Jackson St., Athens, TN.


The Blue Raiders (5-14, 1-2 in Mid-South Conference) return to the diamond after opening conference play against Georgetown (Ky.) on Friday and Saturday. Lindsey Wilson fell in the first two games of the series before taking home the third and final game on Saturday, defeating the Tigers 7-6.

Steven Calderon leads LWC with a batting average of .308 on 65 at-bats so far this season. Calderon also leads the Blue Raiders with 18 RBI's on the season. Calderon has been able to manage 20 hits with 13 runs scored as well as seven doubles and four home runs.

Austin Rayno leads the Blue Raiders with 21 hits on 69 at-bats, matching Calderon with 13 runs as well.

Derek Marrufo is close behind Calderon with three home runs this season. Marrufo and Calderon are the only two Blue Raiders with more than one home run.

Ethan Escue has pitched the most for Lindsey Wilson, pitching for 24.0 innings this season for a 5.63 ERA. Escue has started in all five games played and has struck out 13 batters while giving up 18 runs and 26 hits.

Francisco Arias has recorded the lowest ERA on the team this far with a 3.18 ERA. Arias has seen action in nine games and has pitched a total of 11.1 innings, picking up a record of three wins and one loss. Arias has recorded 13 strikeouts during his time on the mound.

Jose Diana is the strikeout leader for LWC with 19 total strikeouts for an average of 3.2 strikeouts per game.

Tennessee Wesleyan (21-6, 4-4 in Appalachian Athletic Conference) hosts Lindsey Wilson after losing two games of a three-game series against Bryan (Tenn.) this past weekend.

Jhosmel Rodriguez leads Tennessee Wesleyan with a batting average of .368 while connecting for 25 hits. Dan Fry leads the Bulldogs with 29 hits this season. Aloysius Cruz is the leading the team in RBI's with 25 total. Adrian Marquez has scored the most runs for TWU, scoring 24 runs so far this season.

The Bulldogs have been able to connect on 29 home runs this season which places them 11th in the NAIA next to Middle Georgia State. TWU also ranks 15th in the nation in total RBI's (183).

Jack Granath leads the team from the mound with a 2.08 ERA. Granath has pitched for 30.1 innings, striking out 26 batters while giving up 11 runs and 27 hits. Irving Martin averages 12.2 strikeouts per game for a total of 39 this season.

Tuesday's matchup between Lindsey Wilson and Tennessee Wesleyan is the 12th meeting between the two programs. The Bulldogs hold a 7-4 record against the Blue Raiders. The last time the two met, Lindsey Wilson defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 3-1 at Egnew Park back on April 4th during the 2017 campaign.
