Pence-Chowning Art Gallery to show Shelby White's artwork

By Amber Meade, communications assistant, Office of University Communications

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Shelby White is hosting her senior art exhibit March 18-29, 2019 in the Pence-Chowning Art Gallery, 205 University Dr, Campbellsville, Ky.

A reception will be held on March 22nd, 3-7pmET.

In her artist statement, White said, "More than paint on a canvas, my work portrays a story within each one of my pieces each started by a spark.

"This spark is what has led me to want a deeper meaning in my works that has been ignited from the skills and knowledge I've gained throughout my life.

"I have gained skills and understanding as a student in graphics, new mediums, traditional mediums, printmaking, painting, drawing, etc. that have allowed me understand the full capabilities of my works.

"I find that not everyone sees life through the same lenses. Therefore, my desire for my works is to spark a thought, feeling, or memory to lead to a deeper meaning than what is seen, but rather what is felt.

"I find that I parallel my works with the concepts of scripture.

"I was raised in the church and was taught the stories of scripture along with the importance of family, life, and my Savior. A Bible verse can mean something special to someone, while meaning something completely different for others. I have found that depending on where you are in location, age, or stage of life that an artwork could spark a meaning specifically catered to your personal story.

"My hope is to simply be that spark."
