Wind advisory, chance of thunderstorms, high 74F

It's currently 64F at the Adair County Mesonet station. There is a wind advisory in effect through 7pmCT, with sustained winds 15 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 40 to 50 mph. Winds of this magnitude can blow around small items, topple weakly rooted trees, and make travel difficult on east-west oriented roads.

There's also a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some of the storms could be severe, and tornadoes and hail are also possible. Otherwise mostly cloudy, with a high near 74F. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tonight will bring a continued chance showers and thunderstorms before 10pmCT, then a chance of showers between 10pm and midnight. Some of the storms could be severe. Tonight's low is expected to be around 43F. Southwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. The chance of precipitation tonight is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

Friday will bring a chance of sprinkles after 1pmCT. Increasing clouds, with a high near 50F. West wind 9 to 15 mph.

Friday night should be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 29F. West wind 6 to 11 mph.

Annex shelter available as needed until storms pass

Mike Keltner is closely watching storm predictions and releasing briefing slides through the day. He also noted that the Adair County Courthouse Annex will be available for temporary storm shelter until storms have passed.
