RIDES Q&A: the US & KY not advancing in EV encouragement

By Tom Waggener

Hi Vonnie, Thanks for your question about what our country is doing. Not to get too political, but under the current administration, moves towards advancing electric vehicles in reducing dependence on oil and gas and diesel has taken a bit of a step back.

Many of the tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases are going to end and not get renewed.

In our own state there have been many moves to add extra taxes to electric vehicles and to de-incentivize rooftop solar - both things that would help in the future.

Certain states are taking moves towards speeding adoption of electric vehicles, namely California, which offers many state tax incentives, mandates solar systems on any new construction home, and has set a goal of going completely renewable by the year 2050 in terms of its utilities.
