Congratulations ACHS Academic Team - heading to state The ACHS Academic Team will advance to the State Championships in March By Brett Reliford The ACHS Academic Team continued their winning ways at the 2019 Governor’s Cup Region Championship on Saturday and as repeating District Champions earlier this year on January 26, 2019. At Region this Saturday, the team broke a school record by having 8 individual State Finals qualifications, and the Future Problem Solving team also qualified for the State Championships at the event once again. Placing in the Top 5 at the Regional Championships is the threshold individuals must meet in order to advance to State, and the team had individuals place in five separate written assessments. Trevor Smith placed in the Top 5 in both Social Studies and Arts and Humanities. Maddie Harmon earned a trip to State Finals in both Language Arts and Arts and Humanities. Chris Stuchell landed a spot in the Top 5 in both Language Arts and Composition. Keaton Coomer secured his first individual State Finals appearance with a top 5 in both Mathematics and Composition. Through two rounds of evaluation in what was called the most competitive Region across the state by judges, the Future Problem Solving team of Chris Stuchell, Arabella Caldwell, Amber Loy, and Christina Kessinger finished runners-up and advanced to the State Championships ahead of a top notch field of other FPS teams. The team enters State as the defending State Champions from 2018 and is coming off a year where they finished 8th in the world in Future Problem Solving. The Quick Recall team finished 3rd, just shy of the State Finals qualification but near the top of the ladder in very competitive field of teams. The team captured the District Championship in January along with a host of individual competitors who placed in Written Assessment events. The ACHS Academic Team’s overall District Championship in January was the 14th year in a row Adair County has won the District title. The team will now advance to the State Championships to be held at the Galt House in Louisville on March 16-18. Team members attending will be Trevor Smith, Samuel Willis, Chris Stuchell, Arabella Caldwell, Maddie Harmon, Keaton Coomer, Alex Godsey, Ty Cheatham, Elizabeth Rexroat, Hayden Hancock, Amber Loy, and Christina Kessinger.
