GABKY Conference includes leaders from Adair, Taylor and Green Counties The General Association of Baptists in Kentucky (GABKY) hosted the group's 75th annual Pastors Conference in Louisville at the Galt House the week of February 11-14. The conference was attended by pastors and other church leaders from the approximate 500+ member local churches comprising the GABKY. Several churches from Taylor, Adair, and Green Counties we're represented at the event. Dr. John Chowning, pastor of Saloma Baptist Church and executive assistant to the president at Campbellsville University, gave a presentation on multigenerational ministry in the 21st century. Chowning’s presentation was part of the group’s Coleman-Awkard-Walker (CAW) lecture series. It is named in honor of Dr. Thurman Coleman, Dr. Russell Awkard and the late Dr. T. Vaughn Walker. He was introduced by Rev. Matt Smyzer, CU trustee, pastor of Beargrass Missionary Baptist Church, and one of the GABKY vice moderators. Rev. James Washington, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Adair County, opened the session with prayer. The conference featured several workshops and worship sessions. Church Security was one of the topics discussed in the breakout sessions. The Zion District Association was well represented throughout the conference. Campbellsville University staff were also supportive and present for the conference. The General Association is an assembly of some 525 Black Missionary Baptist Churches throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky, representing approximately 175,000 members of the Christian faith community. The theme of the conference: Luke 9:57-62, "Dedicated to Serving The Lord." This story was posted on 2019-02-16 12:21:55
