Young people to highlight environmental issues in Frankfort

By Grace Engelman

Frankfort, KY - On Wednesday, February 20th, at 2pmCT/3pmET, a coalition of young Kentuckians will gather on the front steps of the Kentucky State Capitol, 700 Capital Ave., Frankfort, KY, for the annual Rise Up Kentucky Rally to remind legislators that young people will be most impacted by the catastrophic effects of climate change and environmental degradation. The event is intended to amplify the voices of Kentuckians who realize that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness aren't possible without a livable environment.

The rally will incorporate speakers who are pillars of Kentucky's activist communities, as well as the creative powers of the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition (KSEC). KSEC and its allies will be chanting, singing, and performing a theatre piece written by one of its members.

The Rise Up Kentucky Rally aims to promote a sustainable, renewable future that doesn't leave any Kentuckians behind, and to uplift the voices of those in our Commonwealth who do not see themselves represented in our current legislature. For information about the history of KSEC's youth activism and framework for a just economic transition, visit https://www.kystudentenvironmentalcoalition.org.
