By Christopher Coombs

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 95-71 on Thursday night in Mid-South Conference action at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders got off to a quick in the contest, opening the game on a 21-4 run that lasted just over the first six minutes of action. LWC's defensive effort limited the Phoenix to making just 2-of-8 field goal attempts to open the game while forcing three turnovers.

Lindsey Wilson would manage to maintain at least a 15 point lead over the remainder of the half, taking their largest lead of the half at 23 points with 1:54 on the clock.

LWC would lead 51-29 at the break.

JR Adams paced the Blue Raiders offensive efforts in the half with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while connecting on 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc. Matthew Eldridge grabbed seven boards as LWC dominated the glass, outrebounding the Phoenix 23-14.

Lindsey Wilson would extend their lead to as many as 25 in the early goings of the second half before Cumberland managed to trim the LWC advantage to 20 points at 65-45 with just over 12 minutes to play.

It was as close as the Phoenix would get as the Blue Raiders and Cumberland then traded baskets to a 23 point Lindsey Wilson advantage with just over eight minutes to play. LWC would outscore the Phoenix 16-15 over the remainder of the game to win by a final score of 95-71.

Cumberland had three players score double-digit points as Andrew Rogan scored a game-high 24 points and added three steals.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Monday when they play host to Fisk (Tenn.) at Biggers Sports Center starting at 4 p.m. CT.
