KIA Board Approves $251K Loan to the City of Burkesville Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority Board approved a $251,000 loan to the City of Burkesville. The funds will allow the city to plan for upcoming upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant. "Dedicating the time and effort to carefully plan is key to the success of a public project," said Department for Local Government Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo, who also serves as chair of the KIA Board. "These funds will help the city thoroughly evaluate the plant's current condition and make recommendations for improvements." "Part of our mission at KIA is to foster effective planning to ensure that Kentucky's utilities remain sustainable for years to come," KIA Executive Director Donna McNeil said. "I'm pleased to assist the City of Burkesville with this project, which will benefit roughly 600 people who rely on the wastewater treatment plant for service." "I'd like to thank the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority for helping officials in Cumberland County find an affordable funding mechanism for this important project," Sen. Max Wise said. "This project has the potential to improve water quality for those who live and work in Burkesville." "This loan is extremely helpful to Burkesville as the city prepares for the wastewater treatment plant upgrade," Rep. Jeff Hoover said. "I am glad to see state government helping our communities improve their services, and would like to thank the Infrastructure Authority Board for their support for this project." KIA was created in 1988 to provide funding mechanisms for local public works projects. As of last year, the agency had provided more than $1.7 billion in assistance to municipalities across the Commonwealth wanting to expand access to potable water. KIA is under the Office of the Governor and administratively attached to the Department for Local Government. To learn more, visit kia.ky.gov. This story was posted on 2019-02-14 11:24:13
