Farmers Market on the Square will enjoy same location again

By Tiffany Kessler

A Special Called City Council Meeting held Monday evening, February 11, 2019 tied up any loose ends pertaining to the upcoming Farmers Market growing season. An agreement was created and signed which allowed for the continued use of the city parking lot located on the corner of Campbellsville and Merchant Streets.

The document states that the Farmers Market may set up on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to October of 2019. FM Vice President Darrell Andrew and FM Manager Donna Jones seemed pleased with the agreement, as did the city council which voted all in favor.

This all comes after a premature announcement in December from the previous mayor which entertained the idea of a $500,000 pavilion being built over the parking lot - funding for the proposed project would have come from possible grant monies and city tax dollars.

That was voted down at the January City Council meeting and the roof grant idea for that particular location will not be revived.

All council members were present, including: Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Dr. Ronald Rogers, Sharon Payne, June Parson, and Mark Harris.

Regular meetings for the Columbia City Council are held the first Monday of each month at 6pmCT located in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Meetings are open to the public.
