How can it be that we so much alike
in all that makes us live and breathe and die
have room for much diversity to spike
love's random blooms reflecting in love's eye?

How can we hope that touches soft will come
in all that shakes us careless of our need
to give assurance that we grow not numb
resisting common loss from common greed.

How can we know that we do not exist
in all that seemingly would tear us down
but rise and find companions to assist
avoiding thorny seeking laurel crown.

How can we think these things seen written here
in all that thundering of fear and cheer.
