LWC Women's Track competed at Anderson University By Christopher Coombs Anderson, IN - The Lindsey Wilson women's indoor track and field team competed at the Anderson University Indoor Invitational on Saturday where they recorded nine total first-place finishes and three national qualifying marks. Paige Pettell won one event and was the top collegiate performer in another at the Invite. She recorded a national qualifying B mark while winning the shot put with a throw of 13.13 meters. The toss was a full meter over her nearest competitor. Pettell finished second in the weight throw but was the top collegiate athlete with a toss of 14.91 meters. Safia Bright recorded a pair of national-qualifying marks en route to winning a pair of races. After posting the top qualifying time in the 60-meter dash prelims, Bright backed it up with a national A cut mark with a 7.68 in the finals to win the race. The time was also an Anderson Fieldhouse record. Bright posted a B cut in the 200 with a time of 25.89 seconds and won the race by nearly two full seconds. Bright capped off her day with a team win in the 4x400-meter relay. The Blue Raider squad of Carley Johnson, Marie Ninamou and Alexia DeHaven-Boyd raced past the field, winning by 20 seconds. Lindsey Wilson swept the podium during the long jump when Annesha Harris, Alexia Winn and Oreatha Hurt finished in first, second and third. Harris posted a 5.34m jump as Winn and Hurt added 5.08m and a 5.00m jumps, respectively. Winn tacked on a first-place finish during the triple jump, posting a mark of 10.70m. The Blue Raiders also swept the podium during the 60-meter hurdles. DeHaven Boyd turned in a first-place finish after crossing the finish line in 9.26 seconds as Harris and Hurts finishes in second and third place. She also added a first-place finish during the 400-meter dash when she crossed the finish line in 1:00.13. Meredith Johnson added to the Blue Raiders success when she added a first-place finish during the 1,000-meter run, finishing the race in 3:21.00.
