EDA looks to next steps and can celebrate Whayne Supply

By Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com

Things in the Columbia Adair County Economic Development Authority (EDA) move slowly, as evidenced by the trip from inception to completion of Whayne Supply.

After over four years - from being a thought to a prospect for a Whayne Supply location, to final selection of Columbia and through the building process - the business is now in completion mode on Dohoney Trace, Holladay Place, in New Columbia, KY.

Jobs have been added and the EDA has a right to be in celebration mode even as it works on future projects.

The possibility of Whayne Supply/Columbia began with meeting at Lindsey Wilson College with 165-170 persons and Whayne Supply CEO, President and sole owner Monty Bloyd were present. Competition towns then included Danville and Glasgow.

Columbia, with its location as a highway hub was in a good strategic position to be chosen. Lindsey Wilson College and the welding programs at the Lake Cumberland Technology satellite campus at Adair County High School were included in Columbia's presentation as major assets.

EDA next goal: improvement to the Green River Industrial Park road so that prospects see more possible locations within the park.

Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority (CACEDA), meets each third Tuesday from 8am-9amCT, at the Chamber Building, 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY. Meetings are open to the public.
