By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriffs Office

A drug investigation by the Adair County Sheriff's Office results in a traffic stop and search warrant at a residence on Mt. Tussell Road in the Knifley community of Adair County.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, the Adair County Sheriff's Office, along with Kentucky State Police Troopers and Officers from the Columbia Police Department executed the search warrant at the residence of James Burnette, 51, of Mount Tussell Rd.

During the investigation, a minor child, who was entered as missing out of Hart County, was located along with methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and items commonly associated with the sale of narcotics.

The child was returned to Hart County, and Burnette was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Sheriff's Deputy Josh Durbin.

Burnette was charged with:
  • Unlawful Transaction with a minor
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance Methamphetamine
  • Custodial interference
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
