LWC Wrestling falls in tiebreaker to Life 21-20 By Christopher Coombs The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team fell 21-20 to No. 3 Life in a match that had to go to the rulebook after the two squads were knotted at 20 all after the completion of the 10 matches tonight at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday at 6pmCT, when they take on Campbellsville University at the CU Wrestling Facility, 315 Meader Street Campbellsville, KY. The Running Eagles (5-0 MSC) were awarded one team point on the third tiebreaker. The rule states the team with the most total match points scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls shall be awarded one extra team point. Life held a slight 56-51 total team point advantage under this rule and was awarded the additional point giving them the victory. Lindsey Wilson (4-1 MSC) would fall in their first match via pin but Brady Moser (No. 8 at 133) would cut the Life lead in half when he produced a 3-1 decision over Randy McCray (No. 18 at 125). Trent Johnson (No. 6 at 141) jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first period during his match against Lucas Patterson (No. 17 at 133). Johnson would go on to produce a dominating 21-6 technical fall victory, giving LWC an 8-6 advantage. Life would regain the lead at 149-pounds with an 8-2 decision and then extended their match lead to 13-8 with a major decision victory in the next bout. Derrick Smallwood (No. 6 at 157) won in dominating fashion with a pinfall in 2:45 over Syd Ohl (No. 9 at 157) in the 165-pound bout. Smallwood recorded three near falls in the first period before ultimately ending the match. The win vaulted the Blue Raiders back into the lead at 14-13. Brett Bradford (No. 8 at 174) battled his way to a 5-4 lead after two periods against Osvani Ley (No 17 at 165) before ultimately taking his match on an 8-4 decision. The Running Eagles were able to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead back to one point when they won the on a 10-4 decision during the 184-pound bout. Life then regained the lead during the next match when they produced a major decision victory. Brandon Reed (No. 1 at HW) took on Jimsher Sidhu (No. 19 at HW) in the final match of the night. Reed and Sidhu battled their way to a 2-2 tie after two periods. Reed earned an early escape point and later scored a two-point takedown as he would win the match on a 5-2 decision, leveling the score at 20-20. This story was posted on 2019-01-30 04:40:44
