Remembering Pat Bell

By Rollin Knifley

There are two kinds of people we encounter in this life. There are those we meet and soon forget and those we meet that leave their fingerprints on our lives. Pat and Martha Bell left theirs on me, and my entire family.

One of Pat's paintings hangs in Dad's house. We were heartbroken when Martha passed in 2012. I was deployed at the time and couldn't make it to the service, I think it bothered me more not being able to come home for the service than it did being in the part of the world I was in at the time. My mother thought the world of Pat and Martha, and their comfort when Mom passed meant a lot to Kevin, Chris and I.

I thank Rob and Jen for sharing their time with Pat and Martha with me when I was a young lad. I will always remember Martha as sweet and having a great sense of humor. I will remember Pat as a true Kentucky Gentlemen.

Rob and Jen, there will always be a safe place to lay your head and a seat at the dinner table at the Knifley's, either in Columbia or Knoxville. --Rollin
