LWC Men fall to No. 9 Georgetown 73-69

Georgetown, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team fell to No. 9 ranked Georgetown (KY) Thursday evening at the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym by a final score of 73-69. The Tigers controlled the glass in the game as they out rebounded LWC 42-31 after grabbing 14 offensive rebounds that would lead to quality second chance points.

Lindsey Wilson will be back in action when they hit the road this Saturday for a matchup against the No. 7 ranked Campbellsville University Tigers on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 3pmCT at Powell Athletic Center, 203 Tiger Way Campbellsville, KY.


The Blue Raiders (8-8, 0-2 MSC) shot 41.3 percent from the floor while going 11-32 from beyond the arc in the loss. LWC was able to outscore the tigers in the second half 44-39. Georgetown (16-1, 2-0 MSC) managed to take advantage at the free-throw line connecting on 18-24 shots from the charity stripe as they managed to go 7-of-8 from the line late in the game to put it away.

JR Adams led the Blue Raiders with 16 points - tying a game-high -- after going 6-of-12 from the field and 4-9 from beyond the arc. Shakaris Laney chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds. Payton Cundiff with 14 points and Kel Stotts with 10 were the only other Blue Raiders in double figures.

The first five minutes of action Lindsey Wilson was able to keep close with Georgetown holding to a 6-5 score. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to push the lead to 12-6. The Blue Raiders made a 7-point scoring burst, propelled by Pierre Lys and Cundiff, to cut the Tigers lead to 16-13 half way through the first stanza.

Georgetown made another big push over the next several minutes, this one 16-4 run to take their lead to 32-17 with 3:14 to play. The Blue Raiders would finish the half scoring five of the last seven points to cut the Tigers lead to 34-25.

The Blue Raiders would chip away the Tigers lead early in the second half, cutting the Tiger lead down to 42-36 with 13 minutes to play. Stotts, Cundiff and Adams pushed LWC on a 9-3 run over the next 3 minutes after they all connected from deep to tie the game at 45-45.

Lindsey Wilson eventually took the lead over across the next two minutes going on a five-point run making it 50-45 LWC.

The Tigers clawed away at LWC's lead, eventually tying the game at a 52-52 score with 7:35 left in the game. The Blue Raiders kept within three points till 1:46 left, when Brodricks Jones hit a three-point shot, to push Georgetown to a 67-61 lead.

Laney kept the Blue Raiders in it with 24 second left with a late three-pointer to cut the Tigers lead to 69-67. Late clutch foul shooting would push the Tigers past the Blue Raiders.
