Note from Mitzi: a check of possible kayaking spots

By Mitzi Bault

In the midst of cancer treatment which I've shared with you before, I have been mostly housebound.

It was to the point of driving my husband, Ricky, and family crazy until my BFF Robyn Curry rescued all of us by swooping me up between meds and being a tour guide for me around Green River Lake.

She and I are kayaking partners and she was my tour guide and we enjoyed a beautiful, sunny Wednesday, January 9, 2019 together in exploration.

Along with this note are a few of our photos from the day, showing Green River Lake and Holmes Bend Boat Dock in winter time.

We are right here in the middle of some great waterways - Green River Lake, Lake Cumberland and all the offshoots of rivers and streams that make them possible. Then to the south is Dale Hollow Lake. To the west is Barren River Lake. So many points to explore yet to go!

The new fishing pier at Holmes Bend Boat Dock, nearly under water, offers this obvious picture of our wettest year on record in Kentucky. As soon as the water is back down a bit, there will be new opportunities for fishing from this pier, for children, family and little old ladies. - MB

Mt. Carmel boat ramp under water but still usable for some

Mt. Carmel boat ramp is under water for now but you can still launch kayaks, johnboats or small fishing boats before the waters come back to summer pool. Wouldn't advise houseboats at this time. - MB

Kayaking buddy Robyn Curry was our tour guide as we took advantage of a recent day of pure sunshine to look for places to put in as soon as weather and water levels cooperate enough. We drove along the cliff neighborhood above Holmes Bend and were able to catch this view. - Mitzi Bault

Note from Mitzi: caught my friend Robyn for this picture

She always says, "no pictures," but I just caught my BFF Robyn Curry in this moment during our recent tour around Green River Lake. Kayaking partners, she and I enjoyed a recent sunny day exploration water levels and thinking about how soon we can get back out on the river. - MB
