Text talk on Internet Safety at ACHS can help parents help kids

Parents can find help in order to help children be smart, safe, and respectful digital citizens when using technology at this event at ACHS Tuesday. Everyone is invited to attend.

Texting, livestreaming, Snapchat, Fortnite . . . Technology is changing fast, and many of us are struggling to stay one step ahead of our kids.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 5pmCT at the Adair County High School Cafeteria, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY for a discussion on how to teach them to be smart, safe, and respectful digital citizens.

This very informative night will begin with a light meal followed by an Internet Safety presentation by students from each school then Jason Rector, District Network Engineer, and Kevin Atwood, School Resource Officer, will conduct an informative presentation for parents while students participate in fun, Internet Safety activities.



The evening will conclude with door prizes.

Specifically, parents will learn about:

* The importance of knowing the sites and apps your child uses

* How kids are using mobile devices like smartphones and tablets

* Social network sites and how to help your child use them wisely

* What to do if your child encounters online bullying

* Objectionable content and what to do if your child views it

* The importance of teaching your child to find a healthy balance with technology use

* Your role in keeping the conversation going about responsible Internet use District Technology staff will be available to help you configure your mobile devices for safety online.
