Stumbo plans to run for the Attorney General again

Greg Stumbo, a former Kentucky Attorney General and member of the state House of Representatives for 32 years, said Saturday he plans to seek another term as the state's top elected law enforcement official.

Stumbo, an Eastern Kentucky lawyer, becomes the first Democrat to publicly announce a bid for the office currently held by Democrat Andy Beshear, who is running for governor and is not seeking a second term as attorney general. Meanwhile, the field of Republicans seeking the job may be growing.

Sen. Whitney Westerfield, a well-known Western Kentucky lawyer and legislator who barely lost the attorney general's race to Beshear in 2015, announced in 2017 he would make another run for the office in 2019. Westerfield, a Hopkinsville Republican, is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
