LWC Men's Basketball falls to Indiana Southeast 77-59

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team fell to Indiana Southeast on Saturday night at Biggers Sports Center by a final score of 77-59.

The Blue Raiders return to the court on Monday when they take on Bethel (IN) at 7pmCT in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.


Kel Stotts led the Blue Raider (7-5) with 14 points as Can Oztamur added on 13 points and seven boards. Fredens Deneus recorded a game-high nine rebounds while adding eight points.

Lindsey Wilson managed to shoot just 34.9 percent from the floor while Indiana Southeast (9-5) connected on 41.5 percent of their attempts. LWC made a season low 22 baskets on the night as they have averaged 31 a game over their first 11 competitions.

The Blue Raiders held a slight rebound advantage as they grabbed 41 boards to the Grenadiers 40. LWC turned the ball over 14 times in the game as IUSE managed six steals.

For the first time this season Lindsey Wilson would find themselves trailing at the half after streaking shooting plagued the team's efforts to gain an offensive rhythm all night.

The Blue Raiders got off to a shaky start as they would miss on their first four attempts from the field to find themselves trailing 10-0 with three minutes gone. LWC would trail by 13 with 13:28 on the clock and would be down 22-10 before a 10-1 run by Lindsey Wilson cut the Indiana Southeast lead to 23-20 with 6:40 to play.

The Grenadiers would outscore LWC 10-2, to take a 33-22 lead with just over two minutes to play but the Blue Raiders ended the half on a 5-0 run to trail by just six at 33-27 after the first 20 minutes of action.

Lindsey Wilson managed to connect on just 31.4 percent (11-of-35) of their attempts from the field while committing seven turnovers. Indiana Southeast would shoot 32.3 percent from the floor but were able to connect on 6-of-14 three point attempts. The Blue Raiders committed seven turnover to IUSE's three in the half.

LWC and the Grenadiers traded baskets over the course of the first nine minutes as both teams managed 13 points to give IUSE a 46-40 advantage. Lindsey Wilson's Shakaris Laney and Stotts would cash in on three point attempts on the Blue Raiders next possessions to trail by just two, 48-46 at the 10:24 mark.

Indiana Southeast would then extend their lead to 19 points when they were able to outscore LWC 21-4 over the next five minutes of play. The Blue Raiders would score nine points to the Grenadiers eight over the final minutes of the game but would ultimately fall 77-59.

Five different Indiana Southeast players scored double-digit points as Jamie Johnson led the way scoring a game-high 19 points.
