Denzil Smith, 94, Cumberland County, KY (1924-2018)

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Burkesville Church of Christ, had worked for several bridge construction companies for many years and was a farmer.

Denzil Smith age 94 of Burkesville, KY passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 07, 2018 at 1pmCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY with burial in Burkesville Cemetery. Family requests visitation on Thursday, December 06, 2018 from 5-9pmCT at the funeral home.



Denzil was born on October 22, 1924 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Jessie Curtis and Sibbie Sharp Smith. He was a member of Burkesville Church of Christ, had worked for several bridge construction companies for many years and was a farmer. Denzil served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Lee Bull Smith, one grandchild, Rodney Smith, and four siblings, Bera Gwinn, Lucille Strange, Lerell Smith, and Leslie Smith.

Survivors Include:
  • Two Daughters - Carol Ann Sells and her husband Doug of Burkesville, KY and Jennifer Hawthorne and her husband Seth of Breeding, KY
  • Two Sons - Larry Smith and his wife Venita of Bowling Green, KY and Ronnie Smith of Louisville, KY
  • One Brother - Ted Smith and his wife Carmelita of Burkesville, KY
  • Six Grandchildren - Sean Smith, Cory Smith, Sara Smith, Justin Davis, Jared Young, Jordan Young
  • Five Great Grandchildren - Lindsey, McPherson, Jackson, Mason, Madison
  • Special Friends - Button Vibbert and Doug Groce and host of other relatives and friends.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503

Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
