Messiah-Sing turns audience into performers Before today's comments about the growing phenomenon of merging audience and performers, here's an important announcement: Messiah-Sing will be one evening only, Tuesday, December 4, at Columbia Baptist Church. In consultation with our guests, the event scheduled for Homeplace Barn on Wednesday, December 5, is cancelled; temperatures will be below the predetermined threshold established. By Gerald Chafin The remarkable cultural phenomenon of audience and performers merging together for presentations of Handel's Messiah has given us a unique set of perspectives from all around the globe. It's very interesting how a number of these quotations, although made years ago, encourage us today. Enjoy these and add your own on Tuesday evening! "I felt a hopefulness and camaraderie I had seldom witnessed." (from Kent, England, which led to the establishment of Messiah-Sing in Chicago, IL.) "It's a shower-singer's dream! That dream comes true for anyone able to get in to the Messiah-Sing at Lincoln Center." "Maybe that's what's wrong with the world. People don't sing enough, especially together. Everybody sang . . . they believed in song." "Some trained, some untrained, and united only by a need to sing and a love of good music." "For a brief time, the generation gap was crossed and individual voices discovered that they had become a community." "The occasion belonged to the audience." (NY Times review) "I did think I saw all Heaven before me, and the great God Himself." (George Frederick Handel after writing the section that would take its place in history as the Hallelujah Chorus.) Lindsey Wilson College Choral Ensembles with The Commonwealth Musicians and YOU! present selections from Handel's beloved masterwork on Tuesday, December 4, at 7pmCT Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY This story was posted on 2018-11-30 07:51:06
