By Christopher Coombs

Owensboro, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Brescia (Ky.) on Thursday night after Reagan Turner scored a game-high 18 points after connecting on 8-of-14 field goal attempts.

The Blue Raiders were able to build 41-25 lead at the halfway point of the contest and, despite struggling from the field in the fourth quarter, were able to hold on to a four point victory when the final buzzer rang.

Lindsey Wilson will be back in action at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY, on Saturday when they take on the University of the Virgin Islands at 2pmCT.

Lindsey Wilson and Brescia played to an even 7-7 tie at the 6:40 mark of the first quarter before the Blue Raiders would go on a 12-3 run after a strong defensive effort limited the Bearcats to only one more made field goal attempt. The second quarter saw the Blue Raiders build their lead to a commanding 20 points with 1:28 left in the half but a 4-0 run by Brescia would cut the LWC lead to 16 at the halfway point.

The Blue Raiders and Brescia traded baskets to open the third frame as LWC held on to a 16 point lead with just under five minutes remaining. LWC would score their final basket of the quarter on a Jynea Harris made field goal to give them a 56-38 lead, but the Bearcats would end the third quarter on an 8-0 run, trimming Lindsey Wilson's lead to ten points.

With four minutes gone in the final stanza the Blue Raiders were able to hold on to their ten point lead, this time at 62-52. Three straight turnovers by the Blue Raiders allowed the Bearcats to claw their way back to a four point deficit with 3:37 on the clock.

A field goal and two made free throws by Tyrah Engleman pushed the LWC lead to eight but an 8-1 run by the Bearcats cut the Blue Raider lead to just one with nine seconds left. Heidi Huffman would cash in on three free throws to close out the game, giving the Blue Raiders a hard fought 69-65 victory. Six of the Blue Raiders final eight points came via the free throw line.

Huffman finished the game with 16 points as Engleman managed 13 points and Harris added a team-high six rebounds.
