LWC Volleyball wins Pool F with 3-0 win over Eastern Oregon

Sioux City, IA - No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball closed out pool play at the NAIA National Championships presented by Delta Hotels with an impressive sweep of No. 11-ranked Eastern Oregon today at the Tyson Events Center.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3:45pmCT on Friday. The Blue Raiders' opponent will be decided later today as pool action wraps up at the Tyson Events Center, 401 Gordon Dr, Sioux City, IA. With the 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 win, the Blue Raiders (32-3) win Pool F with a 3-0 record. Lindsey Wilson dropped just one set during pool play.


Lindsey Wilson had its best attack of the tournament thus far, hitting .311 as a team today. Four Blue Raiders hit over .300 for the match led by Paulina Sobolewska's .500 attack with 16 kills and just two errors in 28 swings.

Lindsey Wilson finished the match with 58 kills -- 19.3 kills per set -- while the Mountaineers (25-8) posted 37 for the match.

The Blue Raiders were dominant through stages of the 25-20 opening-set win.

Lindsey Wilson scored seven straight points to take a 13-4 lead and ultimately led by as many as 10 points in the frame before the Mountaineers made a serious charge. Down 16-6, Eastern Oregon outscored the Blue Raiders 14-4 to tie the set at 20-20.

The Blue Raiders rebounded and closed with authority winning the last five points to take the set. Sobolewska provided a pair of kills in the final surge while Autumn Proctor added one of her match-high four service aces to propel the Blue Raiders into the lead.

Lindsey Wilson concluded the set with a .378 attack -- its best of the match -- against a Mountaineer team who entered the national tournament fifth in the NAIA in blocks per game, averaging 2.6 per set. Eastern Oregon finished the match with five team blocks.

Sarah Cruz -- who led the Blue Raider offense in the first two matches of the tournament -- continued her strong play in Lindsey Wilson's 25-18 second-set win.

Cruz pounded out half of her 14 kills in the second as the Blue Raiders overcame an early deficit. Trailing 6-3 early and 13-11 in the middle part of the set, Lindsey Wilson once again closed strong. The Blue Raiders scored eight consecutive points to take a 23-16 lead.

Cruz recorded three kills and Sobolewska two during the spurt while Proctor added another service ace. In addition to her four aces, Proctor recorded her third straight double-double with 44 assists and 13 digs.

Sobolewska and Klara Mikelova provided the offensive punch in Lindsey Wilson's 25-22 third-set win. Sobolewska was fantastic with seven kills and no errors in 11 swings while Mikelova chipped in six kills. Mikelova finished the match with 15 kills -- her second straight match with double-digit kills.

It was another late streak for the Blue Raiders that ultimately decided the set. After the two teams played inside a three-point window through mid-set, Lindsey Wilson broke a 14-14 tie with six consecutive points. Sobolewska recorded three kills during the run.

Eastern Oregon fought off four match points before Mikelova finished pool play with a kill to send Lindsey Wilson to its 10th consecutive win at the national tournament and into the single-elimination tournament as the pool's top team.

Lilo Larzelere and Elly Burke joined Proctor with double-digit digs. Larzelere posted a match-high 18 digs while Burke contributed 13.
