Laverne Kessler McKinney, 89, Green County, KY (1929-2018)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was former member of the Fry Baptist Church for many years, and current member of the Community Baptist Church. She was also a retired machine operator for Fruit of the Loom after 44 years of service. She married George "Grover" McKinney in 1944 who preceded her in death in 2003.

Thelma Laverne Kessler McKinney of Greensburg, KY departed this life on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Taylor Regional Hospital. She was 89 years, 10 months, and 22 days of age.

The funeral services will be conducted at 1pmCT Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the McKinney Family Cemetery. Bro. Twyman Davis and Bro. Mark Lile officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4-8pmCT Wednesday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT Thursday until time of the funeral service.



PALLBEARERS: Shane McKinney, Brian McKinney, Brandon McKinney, Alex Lee, Dustin McKinney, Shorty Keltner, David Allen McKinney, Jackie Jewell. HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

The daughter of the late Pleas Will Kessler and Elmer Lee Finn Kessler, she was born on Friday, January 4, 1929.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was former member of the Fry Baptist Church for many years, and current member of the Community Baptist Church. She was also a retired machine operator for Fruit of the Loom after 44 years of service.

She united in marriage to George "Grover" McKinney on December 23, 1944 who preceded her in death on September 7, 2003.

Survivors include
  • Two sons and three daughters-in-law - G.L. "Duke" and Betty Ann McKinney, Mark and Tammy McKinney, and Janice McKinney all of Greensburg

  • A daughter - Leslie McKinney Lee of Greensburg

  • Eight grandchildren - Lisa and Darrel Eastridge of Campbellsville, Tonya and Darrell Wright, Shane McKinney, Brian and Jackie McKinney, Brandon and Brianne McKinney, Dustin and Megan McKinney, Monica and Charles Eatmon, and Alex Lee all of Greensburg

  • Ten great-grandchildren - Kalie Brooke Wright, Cierra Grace Wright, Kelson McKinney, Isabella McKinney, Grayson McKinney, Allie Beth McKinney, Madalyn McKinney, Easton McKinney, Alyssa Lynn Eatmon, and Ty Michael Eatmon

  • A step-grandchild - Nick Wright

  • Two step-great-grandchildren - Ava Wright and Braylee Bagby; and a host of other relatives and friends
She was also preceded in death by a son, Mike Kessler McKinney on August 10, 2005; a son-in-law: Bobby Lee on July 18, 2012; five sisters and four brothers: Doris Downey, Ella Keltner, Hortense Gleaton, Cleadus McMahan, Opal Matney, James Garnett "Pete" Kessler, Covy Kessler, Leon Kessler, and Lee Kessler.

Memorials are suggested to the McKinney Family Cemetery Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.

The Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
