Comments re article 100621 Letter More on Bert Rosenbaum Ms Willie

By Vonnie Kolbenschlag

Another West Point grad was Robert Martin (1919-2013) He was a great grandson of Col. Frank Lane Wolford, leader of the U.S. First Kentucky Cavalry, commemorated by the sculpture in the Columbia City Cemetery.

Martin attended Lindsey Wilson College that did not have advanced classes, but Professor Asa Dean Shelton tutored him in calculus and trigonometry. Martin then qualified on tests to enter West Point.

Re: Rosenbaum: Adam and Elizabeth Rosenbaum's family was on their way to Nebraska by covered wagon as were many families coming through the Cumberland Gap and this area as they traveled westward. As the family passed through Adair County, Adam contacted typhoid fever and had a lengthy recovery period. By the time he was able to travel, the family group had decided to settle in the Glensfork community in 1847.

In the Trabue-Russell house is a small wooden trunk, which according to family tradition, was made in Germany and belonged to Adam. There is also a small antique cherry bedside table that belonged to Adam (b. 1811) and wife Elizabeth (b. 1818). It was passed down to their great granddaughter, Willie Rosenbaum and from her to her nephew, Glen Epperson, who donated the table and a tintype photograph of Adam and Elizabeth. I believe that Willie Rosenbaum was Jim Blair's mom.
