LWC football 49-14 over Kentucky Christian on Senior Day

The Lindsey Wilson football team dominated the first half of their final regular season game of 2018 as the Blue Raiders cruised to a 49-14 victory over Kentucky Christian on senior day.

The Lindsey Wilson offense produced 453 yards of total offense as they managed 222 yards on the ground and 231 yards through the air. The Blue Raiders defense limited the Knight to 108 yards on the ground and 93 passing yard in the game.

Cameron Dukes led the LWC offense to six touchdowns in the first half as he completed 13-of-20 passing attempts for two touchdowns. Hunter Watkins had five receptions for 67-yards and one touchdown as three Blue Raider running back scored touchdowns on the day. Delvon Dunn recorded a game-high two scores as Darius Clark and Jaylen Boyd both managed one apiece. Clark led Lindsey Wilson with 83 rushing yards.


The Blue Raider offense managed to score on their first six possessions of the game as they were able to build a 42-0 lead before the LWC defense scored a touchdown of their own with 46 seconds left in the first half, giving Lindsey Wilson a 49-0 lead at halftime.

On just the games second play, Holt Keeling intercepted Jug Smith's pass at the KCU 32-yard line. Jaylen Boyd would then use rushes of five and ten yard, before he took a handoff around the right end of his offensive line for the score from 12-yards out.

The next Lindsey Wilson possession lasted 12 plays and totaled 75-yards after starting from their own 25-yard line. The drive would chew up 6:12 of play clock as Delvon Dunn would cap off the drive with a one-yard effort off the right hip of the LWC center.

Kentucky Christian would respond on the ensuing kickoff when Sammie Mitchell returned the ball 62-yards, all the way to the Lindsey Wilson 26-yard line. The Blue Raider defense had the answer, forcing the Knights in to turn the ball over in four plays after they chose to go for it on fourth down from the LWC 21-yard line. DeAngelo Barrios Broke up Smith's pass over the middle to cause the turnover on downs.

Darius Clark would be the third Lindsey Wilson running back to score on the day when he was able to power his way into the end zone from two yards out. The drive would last 12 twelve plays, extending into the second quarter as the Blue Raiders managed to drive the ball 79 yards for the score.

Malachi Rogan would force the Blue Raiders second interception of the day on the ensuing Knight possession giving LWC the ball inside KCU territory at the 39-yard line.

Eight plays later LWC would find the back of the end zone again when Dunn scored his second rushing touchdown of the day on a two yard scamper with 11:44 left in the first half.

Five minutes and 14 seconds later Cameron Dukes would throw for his first touchdown of the day when he found Scotty Krantz. Dukes checked down to Krantz at the 12-yard line who was then able to finish in the end zone after running over multiple KCU defenders on his way.

Lindsey Wilson would record their third interception of the game when Luke Bowman was able to tip Smith's pass. On the deflection, Damani Jenkins was able to collect the ball and return it ten yards to the Lindsey 42-yard line. Four plays later Dukes would connect with Hunter Watkins for 25-yards and the score, increasing the LWC lead to 42-0 with 1:39 on the clock.

The Lindsey Wilson defense would then create their fourth interception of the day, this one by T.J. James as he was able to return it 45-yards for the score increasing the Blue Raider lead to 49-0 at halftime.

Dukes finished the half with 177-yards and two touchdown tosses. Lindsey Wilson dominated the play over the first two quarters as they managed to gain 315 yards of total offense. They used a balanced attack tallying 138-yards on the ground and 177-yards through the air.

The Blue Raider defense limited the Knights to just 105-yards of total offense in the half.

After Lindsey Wilson came up empty on their opening possession of the second half - their first drive of the game not resulting in a touchdown - the Knights were able to produce their best drive of the game. Starting from their own seven yard line, the drive would last 16 plays and travel an impressive 93-yard for the score. KCU's quarterback Smith would find Devon McCoy for a six-yard touchdown toss.

Peyton Veraldi would come into the game for the Blue Raiders to start the second half. On their second possession of the half, Veraldi's pass intended for Tre Dickerson was intercepted by Cameron Heath at the Lindsey Wilson 43-yard line.

After turning the ball over on downs, Lindsey Wilson would be forced into their second turnover of the game. Veraldi completed a pass to Julian Johns. Johns had the ball jarred loose on the play when he was tackled by Connor Hinkle as the fumble was recovered by Cameron Heath and returned 27-yards to the LWC 18-yard line.

Two plays later Kentucky Christian's Smith would find McCoy for his second touchdown of the day on an 18-yard throw and catch. KCU cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 49-14 with 14:27 to play in the fourth quarter.

Freshman quarterback Cameron Evans would come in for the Blue Raiders on their next possession and lead them from their own 33-yard line to the KCU 12-yard line before Darius Clark was tackled at the two yard line by McKinnlee Hatton who forced a fumbled into the end zone that was recovered by Cameron Heath for the touchback.

After a three and out by Kentucky Christian the Blue Raiders would take over from their own 41-yard line before running out the remaining five minutes on the clock to take their final regular season game of the season by a final score of 49-14.

Rogan led the LWC defense with ten tackles as David Nobles, Trent Mueller and Damani Jenkins all recorded seven tackles.

Kentucky Christian's Trey Malachevich recorded a game-high 16 tackles.

Prior to the game, 12 seniors were honored for their contributions to the program.

The NAIA Football Championship Series will be announced on Sunday with host sites and matchups for the 16-team field released at 4pmCT via the NAIA Facebook page.
