By Christopher Coombs

The No. 10 Lindsey Wilson football team fell to No. 5 Bethel (Tenn.) 56-30 on Saturday afternoon at Blue Raider Stadium in Mid-South Conference Bluegrass division action.

The Blue Raiders (5-3, 2-2 MSC) were outgained by Bethel (9-0, 5-0 MSC) 606 yards to LWC's 425 yards as the Wildcats ground game managed to produce 426 yards of their offense.

Lindsey Wilson's Trent Mueller recorded eight tackles in the game for the Blue Raider defense as he is now the programs all-time tackles leader with 304 tackles in his career. Mueller passes Michael Brooks who donned the LWC uniform from 2012-15 and recorded 303 career tackles.

Jaylen Boyd recorded his second career 100-yard performance after rushing for 119 yards as he also was the Blue Raiders leading receiver with 51 yards through the air. Holt Keeling led the defensive effort for LWC recording 11 tackles as his teammate Joe Lewis tacked on 10 of his own.

Bethel received the opening kick but the Blue Raider defense would force a big turnover on just the games second play when Bethel's Sam Castronova's pass bobbled by Antonio Wright and fell into the hands of TJ James. James was able to return the ball seven yards to the Wildcats 30-yard line.

Lindsey Wilson would attempt a fourth down conversion on the drive but fail to convert giving the ball right back to Bethel. The Wildcats would string together a five play drive that was capped off by a 50-yard touchdown pass from Castronova to J'Kobi Reddick.

The Blue Raiders would pick up their first, first-down on the ensuing drive, moving the ball from their own 21-yard line to the 45-yardline before punting the ball away.

Bethel would increase their lead to 14-0 on their next possession. Starting at their own 25-yard line the Wildcats drove 75-yards in 11 plays for the score. Bethel used 11 straight rushing attempts on the drive.

A costly turnover on the next Blue Raiders possession gave Bethel the ball in great field position. LWC faced a 3rd and 10 from their own 46-yardline when Cameron Dukes came under pressure. The Wildcats Jeremy Johnson was able to punch out the ball from Dukes hands as Chris Beavers would recover the ball at the LWC 31-yard line.

After a huge defensive stand the Blue Raiders forced the Wildcats to attempt a 48-yard field goal that missed wide right, giving the Blue Raiders the ball back at their own 31-yard line with 2:22 left in the quarter.

On the next LWC possession, the Lindsey Wilson would put together their first quality offensive possession of the game. The drive lasted 14 plays, covering 69-yards and would eat up just over five minutes of clock. Dukes would score from one yard out, on the QB keeper with 12:06 left in the second quarter.

Bethel would respond to the Blue Raider score with a quick scoring drive of their own. The Wildcats would use rushes of 13 and 14 yards, a pass of 44 yards before a touchdown scamper by Chris Witherspoon from nine yards out increased their lead to 21-7.

Starting from their own 30-yardline the Blue Raiders would put together a seven play scoring drive. After driving to midfield in five plays, LWC's Boyd broke through the line and into Bethel territory to the 27-yard line. On the next play, Umar Tate beat man coverage as Dukes placed a perfect ball to the back corner of the end zone for the score.

The Blue Raider defense would again come up with a three-and-out and would give the LWC offense great field position when Wildcats punter would send his punt from inside his own end zone to just the BU 31-yard line. After a few costly penalties the Blue Raiders had to settle for a field goal, that Jared Dougherty knocked through from 41-yards out.

Lindsey Wilson's defense forced their second turnover of the game on the first play of Bethel's next possession. On what looked to be a huge gain by Bethel's Reddick, Lewis was able to catch Reddick at the 50-yardline where he was able to punch the ball lose, that was then recovered by LWC's Damani Jenkins at the Blue Raider 37-yardline.

A quick three-and-out gave possession back to the Wildcats at their own 27-yardline. They would use gains of 12, 11, 11 and 34 yards before Ayaunta Davis scored from five-yards out, increasing their lead to 28-17 with 1:47 left in the half.

The Blue Raider offense would manage to drive the ball deep into Bethel territory, all the way to the 15-yard line with two second remaining in the half but Dougherty's 32-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right as time expired. Bethel would take a 28-17 lead into halftime.

The Blue Raiders received the second half kickoff and would start with great field position at their own 32-yardline advancing to their 47-yard line but a strip sack by Bethel's Chris Beavers was recovered by Iran Minnifee at the LWC 44-yard line.

Three plays later Bethel's Castronova would find Derek Smith for a 10-yard touchdown toss to increase the Wildcats lead to 35-17.

Lindsey Wilson would move the ball all the way from their own 41-yard line to the BU 4-yard line before their drive stalled out, forcing a field goal attempt. Bethel managed to get pressure around the right side of the LWC line as Dougherty's attempt was blocked by Karrheem Darrington for a touchback.

The Blue Raider defense picked up a stop on the next Wildcat possession giving the ball back to LWC with 4:01 left in the third quarter. Again the Lindsey Wilson offense would mount a drive, this time reaching the BU seven yard line. Attempting to convert on a fourth-and-one the Blue Raiders failed to pick up the necessary distance, turning the ball over on downs.

On the next play, Bethel's Davis would recorded a 90-yard touchdown run to increase their lead to 42-17 with just 13 seconds left in the third quarter. Bethel would get the ball back quickly when the Blue Raiders were forced into their third turnover of the game when Dukes' pass was picked off on the final play of the third quarter.

Bethel would score on the first drive of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats used a six play, 67-yard drive that was capped off by Castronova's rushing touchdown from 27-yards out.

The Blue Raiders would score their first points of the second half on special teams during the ensuing kickoff. Cam Wyche would receive the kick at his own seven-yard line, breaking to the left sideline and beating the coverage all the way to the end zone. The score cut the BU lead to 49-24 with just over 12 minutes left in the game.

Bethel responded to the Blue Raiders score with a 10 play 75-yard drive that chewed up 5:33 of clock and gave the Wildcats a commanding 32 point lead with 6:44 remaining.

Lindsey Wilson's Payton Veraldi would enter the game at quarterback and lead the Blue Raiders at to their final score of the game with 2:24 left. Veraldi found Darius Clark on a wheel route from the BU 9-yard line. LWC would attempt a two point conversion, but were unsuccessful.

Lindsey Wilson would record a successful onside kick when Malachi Rogan recovered Dougherty's kick at their own 45-yard line. LWC would advance the ball to the BU 42-yard line before they turned the ball over on downs.

Bethel would go into victory formation to run out the remaining time on the clock and pick up the 56-30 victory over the Blue Raiders.
