Otha Jay Brown, 85, Russell Springs, KY (1932-2018)

Otha loved his family, friends, and most of all, his Lord Jesus Christ. In every conversation, he wanted to talk about his Savior and the great hunting and fishing moments he had experienced.

Otha Jay Brown of Russell Springs, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Russell County Hospital. He was 85 years of age.

A memorial service will be held 2:30pmET on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Rd, Nicholasville, KY, with Brother Michael West officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard.


Born October 22, 1932, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roosevelt and Elzie Lawless Brown. Otha was a self-employed auto mechanic and attended First Baptist Church of Russell Springs. He was a US Army Veteran with two years of dedicated service.

Otha loved his family, friends, and most of all, his Lord Jesus Christ. In every conversation, he wanted to talk about his Savior and the great hunting and fishing moments he had experienced.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty Lou Hudson Brown of Russell Springs; one daughter, Karla (Dwight) Bastin of Russell Springs; two step-sons, Mark Stapp of Laurel, Mississippi, and Chris (Tammy) Stapp of Russell Springs; one brother, Lewis (Sarah) Brown of Danville; two grandchildren, Jami (Michael) West of Somerset, and Amanda (Larry) Hughes of Salvisa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Otha was "papa" to five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Ashlynn, Anna, Ava, and Ansley; and "pa" to four step great-grandchildren, Daniel, Samuel, Rebecca, and Luke.

In addition to his parents, Otha was preceded in death by his former wife, Nadine Fights; three brothers, Ernest Brown, Marvin Brown, and Lester Brown; and one sister, Opal Atwood.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Casey County Honor Guard or Gideon's International.
