A letter from C.S. Harris, 1917 As JIM wrote in an earlier article, C.S. Harris was founder and 20-year editor of the Adair County News, from 1897-1917. Jim says, "Mr. Harris never met a cause beneficial to Adair County for which he didn't stand four-square in favor of. His first letter to The News, penned just weeks after he, Maggie, and the younger kids moved to Mississippi, ran nearly two full columns. In the closing paragraphs, he poignantly spoke of his reasons for leaving Adair, saying" (in part): "I have no complaint against the old home. I love its hills, its hollows, and best of all the people, but I was out of harmony with public sentiment and I felt it best for me, and, Adair as well, that I should no more agitate, aggravate and disturb the peace and quietude of so good a community. ...
