Layne Weston at SCY Championships From March 8 through March 10, 2024, 9-year-old Layne Weston of Columbia competed in the 2024 12 & Under Kentucky SCY Championships in Louisville. Layne competed in 7 total events throughout the meet, finishing in 8th or better in every single one. He finished 8th (200 Free), 7th twice (200 IM, 100 IM), 6th (50 Free), 5th (100 Free), and 2nd twice (50 Breast, 100 Breast). Layne is a member of the Southern Kentucky Swim Club, based in Bowling Green, at the Lindsey Wilson satellite location. Tyler King, Co-Head Coach for the SKY swim team, says, "Layne is a very bright young man who has an amazing work ethic and an even better personality for someone of his age. His hard work in the pool is starting to pay off for him during competitions, and the short course championships showed why. His second place finishes in the 50 and 100 Breaststroke competitions were the events in which he shined the most during the meet." Layne touched the wall at 36.59 in the 50 Breaststroke, and a blazing 1:19.85 in the 100 Breaststroke. Layne's 100 Breaststroke time has made him the 6th fastest 9-year-old swimmer in the country.
