LWC Health and Wellness Center - a gathering place By Macy Welsh The community of Columbia thrives off of locality and unity. Whether it be fellowship with one another or running into a friend in town you have not seen for a while. Columbia is home to Lindsey Wilson College, a private institution for students to further their education at the college level. Being away from home, family and community are important to have, and LWC provides just that. The Holloway Health and Wellness Center is a place for not only students, but community members to come and congregate with one another. In an interview with Tori Starks, the Director of the Holloway Health and Wellness Center, she stated that it is a "Great gathering place, not only for students, but the community." With programs such as pilates, yoga, racquetball, and three full sized basketball courts to play volleyball, pickleball, and badminton with your friends and family, the Wellness center has so much to offer. One of the programs that sticks out to most is water aerobics. The Holloway Health and Wellness Center has offered water aerobics since the building's doors opened in April of 2010. The 73,232 square foot building has an indoor pool and hot tub that is accessible to the entire community of Columbia with a day pass or membership, not just the LWC family. Water aerobics is an all age inclusive program that has its "regulars" proclaimed Starks. It has a low impact on the body and is good for rehabilitation. The class is taught by LWC athletes, and is an "at your own pace" program. They have even placed a screen in the natatorium that is connected to Youtube for participants to pull up exercises and water aerobics activities. When asked what the Holloway Health and Wellness Center was to her, Starks said, "It is a place of community, wellness, and self-care." It is accessible for all and open to all. Lindsey Wilson College lives by the saying, LWC is family. By making the Wellness Center a place of gathering for the Community of Columbia, LWC has embraced family to its fullest and is looking to expand it. All are welcome to experience the pleasures that the Holloway Health and Wellness Center has to offer. Whether you are interested in basketball with family and friends, or are ready to jump in the water and make waves doing water aerobics, the Holloway Health and Wellness Center could be the place for you. If you're looking for family, you have come to the right place.
